A reading from the Gospel according to John 15:26-27; 16:12-15: Jesus said to his disciples, "The Holy Spirit is coming. He is sent from the Father through me and he will tell others about me, just like you will. There is more that I have to tell you, but you are not ready for it now, so he will tell when it is time. He will guide you to all truth and glorify me."
Jesus is telling his disciples that the Holy Spirit is coming. The Holy Spirit is the 3rd party of the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - all one God but 3 persons. He wants his disciples to trust the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit will help guide them once Jesus leaves the earth to go back to heaven. The Holy Spirit will continue to bring others to God with the disciples.
Today the Holy Spirit is still with us. He is sometimes described as wind, a flame of fire, or a dove. However, no matter how he is represented, the Holy Spirit actually has gifts that he gives us from God to help us follow God and proclaim his name. We pray to him along with God the Father and Jesus, when we make the Sign of the Cross. (Make the sign of the Cross). Just like we can turn to God the Father, or God the Son (Jesus), we can turn to God the Holy Spirit, who is our friend and will help us grow closer to God.
1) Who is God sending to help the disciples tell others about Jesus? (the Holy Sprit)
2) Is the Holy Spirit also God? (Yes, the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity - God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit)
3) Do you ever talk to the Holy Spirit? Try talking to him right now! He wants to help you today!
