A reading from the Gospel according to John 17:11b-19: Jesus prayed to God for his disciples that they become one with God just like he was one with God. "I gave them your word, and the world hated them,
because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world." Protect them and let them continue to follow you. Your word is the truth. Let them continue to follow it.
Jesus is praying for his disciples. He knows he will soon be going back to heaven - the Ascension - and he will no longer be there on earth to protect them. He is asking God to protect them and help them continue to follow the truth - God's teachings which Jesus has been sharing with them. This strength will allow them to share it with others.
Jesus wants the same thing for us - for us to be warriors for Christ - and to follow his teachings. He is on our side, asking God to help us whenever we come to him for help.
1) Who is Jesus praying for? (his disciples)
2) What does Jesus ask God for his disciples (for their protection so they will continue to follow and share God's word)
3) Do you think that Jesus can help us and asks God to help us when we need him? (yes!) What do you need help with that you can ask Jesus for right now?
