A reading from the Gospel according to Mark 4: 35-41: After Jesus spent time with all the people, he and his disciples decided to get on a boat to cross the lake. A large storm (also known as a squall) started, causing the waves to come over the boat and fill the boat with water. The disciples were so scared but Jesus was asleep. They woke him up, afraid they were going to die! Jesus said, "Quiet! Be still!” to the wind. The wind ceased and there was great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you scared?
Do you not yet have faith?” The disciples asked eachother, "Who is he that even the wind obeys him!"
In this story the disciples are scared that their boat is going to sink because of the storm. However, Jesus is not scared. In fact, he is at such peace he is able to sleep through a thunderstorm! Jesus is showing in this story that he is in control of even the wind and storms. Jesus is all powerful as he is God and he can ALWAYS help you! Jesus is telling us that he wants us to place our trust in him whenever anything scares us in life!
1) When the storm came up, how did the disciples feel? (the disciples were scared)
2) What did Jesus say to them and do? (Jesus asked them if they had faith in him and then stopped the storm)
3) What are some times in your life where you have been scared and turn to Jesus for help?
