A reading from the book of John 1:1-18: God made all things and God gave us his Word and he gave us Jesus. Jesus is the light of the world, shining in the darkness and darkness will not overcome Jesus. John was sent by God to tell about Jesus, the light of the world. Jesus was in the world, the world came to be through him, but the world didn't know Jesus and some of Jesus' own people didn't accept him.
However, those people who did accept Jesus became children of God and saw Jesus' glory.
Today, we celebrate Jesus's birthday! We accept Jesus into our heart and we work hard to follow him at all times. Sometimes we are going to mess up and do bad things (sin). However, when we mess up, we try to get back on track and follow Jesus again as Jesus is the light of the world.
Questions to ask your child about this week's lesson:
1) Who is the Light of the World (Jesus!)
2) Did everyone accept Jesus as God's son? (no)
3) How do we show Jesus that we've accepted him in our hearts?
