The Catholic church has long recognized the necessity of Safe Environment awareness and training. This effort has been focused on protecting our youth and vulnerable adults. In keeping with a safe environment for all, the diocese is recognizing the need for each parish to plan for crisis management. A crisis affecting the St. Gabriel Community can take many forms, including medical emergencies during mass, a weather related emergency or a suspicious person on our campus. Under the direction of Father Don and Parish Director Mike Seibold, a newly formed ministry will become our crisis management team. This new ministry will be known as the Life Safety Ministry or LSM.
The goal of LSM is to plan, coordinate and educate parish staff, volunteer ministries and parishioners in three areas of life safety:
An organizing committee has been formed for the ministry, consisting of Parish Director Mike Seibold, Safe Environment Director Pat Scott, Facilities Coordinator Ken Hodes, parishioner Kelly Jackson and parishioner Michael Flusche.
Parish staff and many existing ministries will be involved in the mission of Life Safety. Most ministries already are performing a task or mission that is directly related to crisis management. The LSM will be contacting these ministries in the near future to coordinate our efforts.
Also many parishioners have specific training and talents that can help with the Life Safety Ministry. Physicians, Nurses, Paramedics and Medical Professionals come to mind along with active and honorably retired law enforcement officers. One of the good things the organizing committee envisions for most volunteers is little to no extra time commitment, other than training. Just attend mass or other functions at St. Gabriel as you already are! We also believe a benefit will be for these groups to network and provide prayerful support for each other.
