Purpose: The Ministry of Consolation provides those who are mourning and grieving the loss of a loved one, an opportunity and safe space to hurt, heal, and mourn with others. RESPOND: Be Serving
This ministry offers Three types of gatherings:
8-week Grief Support Series (Spring & Fall): This 8-week series is our foundational support group offering. Using the New Day Workbook and group conversation, participants journey together through the natural process of mourning. The process is designed to help individuals cope with their grief and pain after the death of a loved one and to support them as they learn to go on with life. New Day's eight-step process is based on William Worden’s four tasks of mourning. Registration required. The workbook expense is covered by freewill donations. See calendar for times and location details.
Grief Support Sessions: Come as you are! These support sessions are more informal in nature than the 8-week Grief Support Series. Come to one, some, or all - this is no ongoing commitment. Sessions are typically offered at least once a month, but sometimes are more frequent (see calendar for times and locations). They bridge the gap between our 8-week support series. Advanced registration is not required, but when you RSVP we are best prepared to welcome you. See calendar for times and location details.
Grief and the Holidays Workshop: This 4-hour workshop is held prior to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to help prepare individuals to cope with the grief that often surfaces during these memorable times of the year. Registration required. See calendar for times and location details.
A Ministry of Consolation facilitator will be present at each session to listen and guide participants in group discussions and processing. Our facilitators are not licensed counselors. At times, they may refer participants to consider professional counseling.
