Jesus was in his hometown of Nazareth and began reading the scripture in the synagogue. Jesus said, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled." The people did not like what he had to say about the scripture. Jesus said to the people, "Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place." The people were so angry that they wanted to drive him out of the town and hurt him. However, Jesus just passed through them and went away.
This is the gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
In today’s gospel reading we heard more about Jesus’ life as an adult and the reaction of the people who lived in his hometown of Nazareth.
Last week we heard about how Jesus stood in the synagogue, the place the Jewish people would go to pray, just like we come to our church. He read from the scriptures and he told the crowd that he was the one who God sent to fulfill the scriptures. Now we hear that not everyone was happy about that and had a hard time believing him. They had known him his entire life and he seemed just like them. He was the son of Joseph, the carpenter. How could he be special? He was an ordinary person, not the king they were expecting! It made a lot of people mad. How do you think that made Jesus feel?
Challenge for this week: Continue to JAM for Jesus and pick someone to tell Jesus's good new to this week!
