A reading from the Gospel according to
Mark 14:12-16, 22-26: Jesus’ disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?" Jesus said, "Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him and at the house that he enters, say to the master, 'The Teacher says, "Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"' Then he will show you a large room furnished and ready.Make the preparations for us there." The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them,
"This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many."
In today's Gospel, the disciples were celebrating the Passover, a holiday where the Jews celebrate their freedom from the Egyptians. During the celebration, Jesus eats with all his disciples. Jesus blesses and breaks the bread and shares himself with his disciples and he blesses and shares the wine as well. Jesus is saying that just like the bread feeds the disciples, he will feed people spiritually and that the disciples should do the same thing and feed others spiritually, leading them to Jesus.
1) What were Jesus and the disciples celebrating (Passover)
2) What did Jesus do at the meal? (blessed and then broke the bread and shared the wine, saying "This is my body and blood.")
3) Where do you hear the same words that Jesus said to his disciples? (at mass when the priest turns the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ)
