A reading from the Gospel according to Mark 6:1-6: Jesus went back to his hometown. He preached in the synagogue, but the people knew him and didn't believe his teachings and things he was saying. Jesus replied, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” Jesus was amazed at the people's lack of faith.
In this Gospel, we learn that not everyone accepted Jesus' teachings and believed in him. This was especially true for those who knew him and his family all their life. They couldn't believe that someone that seemed so ordinary was so special and didn't listen to his message! Jesus wanted to share the good news with them. However, they wouldn't accept it which made Jesus sad.
