A reading from the Gospel according to Mark 6:30-34: Jesus gathered together with the disciples to talk about what they had been doing and what they had taught others. Jesus and the disciples were going to go to a deserted place to rest as they had been working very hard. They hadn't even had time to eat! So, they took a boat to the deserted place, to care for themselves and rest. However, the crowds saw them leaving and went to the place they were going, getting there before the disciples did. Jesus saw them, took pity on them, and taught the crowds many things.
In this Gospel, we see that even Jesus sees value in taking a time to take care of himself and pray to God, despite his busy life. He wanted his disciples to have a vacation, a time out to refocus on what was important. However, the people interrupted him. Jesus wasn't angry though when he got interrupted. He showed something that we call "compassion". He helped the people who needed him right then and gave them love and kindness.
1) What was Jesus planning for the disciples when they went in the boat? (a break, a time out, chance to spend some time with God)
2) Why were Jesus and his disciples not able to take some time for themselves? (the people who needed them, followed them)
3) How can you show compassion this week just like Jesus?
