A reading from the book of Mark 1:29-39: After Jesus finished preaching at the synagogue, he went to the house Simon and Peter along with James and John. They told Jesus about Simon's mother-in-law who was sick with a fever. Jesus immediately went to her, took her hand and healed her. Other people from the town came came to the house that evening and Jesus healed them too.
Early the next morning, Jesus went to a deserted place and prayed. Simon and the other found him and said, "Everyone is looking for you!" Jesus told them, "Come, let's go to the surrounding villages so that I may preach to those people." He went to their synagogues, preaching and healing all of those in Galilee.
We see here in the gospel of Mark that Jesus is healing people and preaching to crowds. He is starting to have followers including his disciples Simon (Peter), Andrew, John, and James.
