A reading from the book of John 20:1-9: Early on the Sunday morning, Jesus's friend Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that Jesus' body was not there. Mary and the disciples thought someone must have taken Jesus' body.
Today is Easter, the day we celebrate Jesus' rising from the dead, otherwise know as The Resurection. The disciples did not know that Jesus rose from the dead when they first went to the tomb. They thought someone took his body. It wasn't until later when they saw Jesus that everyone understood that Jesus rose from the dead and that was part of God's plan.
Questions to ask your child about this week's lesson:
1) What did the disciples think happened to Jesus' body? (that someone took it)
2) What really happened to Jesus' body? (Jesus rose from the dead)
3) How do you plan to celebrate Jesus' resurection today?
