For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in." Matthew 25:35
The Food Shuttle Ministry provides a food rescue service to the needy of McKinney. In order to accomplish this mission, the committee provides an organizational structure to collect leftover baked goods and foodstuffs from local bakeries and deli's for distribution.
Volunteers are dispatched to pick up end-of-day baked goods for delivery to various community groups including Boys and Girls Club of McKinney, Old Settlers Latch-Key Program, Salvation Army, the Lawson Learning Center Back Pack Program, and Community-in-Schools. Volunteering one hour per week as an individual or family will ensure that these groups receive the needed food for after-school snacks and evening meals.
The St. Gabriel Food Shuttle has collected and distributed over nine tons of baked goods since its beginning more than three years ago. We are grateful to the drivers and coordinators who help accomplish this each day of the week by using their vehicles, time and talent to salvage end-of-day baked goods from business locations in McKinney.
If you wonder if this activity is worth the effort your answer will come as you watch the faces of these individuals light up with smiles as you carry in baked goods you collected less than 15 minutes earlier.
